TDEM is an emergency response entity and this status can affect working hours, travel and change in duties as needed. Under general direction coordinates training program activities for TDEM. Work involves coordinating, developing, documenting and evaluating educational and training programs related to statewide emergency management training. Reports to Preparedness Program Supervisor for the Training Unit.

  • Provide administrative work in support of educational and training programs.
  • Compile reports on training programs and maintains training records.
  • Organize and prepare materials and supplies for training courses such as notebooks, handouts, flip-charts, projectors, laptops, or other resources.
  • Enter data into a training database and generate student transcripts, class rosters and reports.
  • Assist with scheduling and registration for training courses and conferences, and with preparing and updating course rosters.
  • May perform research or compile materials for training development.
  • May coordinate and maintain a schedule for training presentations.
  • May prepare articles for in-house publications.
  • May be required to participate in State Operation Center (SOC) events, including disaster and/or emergency response activities or exercises.

  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Maintains a regular work schedule and work extended hours when needed.

Education – Graduation from a standard senior high school or its equivalent.

Experience One (1) to two (2) years’ related work experience in training and administration programs.

Preference for work experience with collecting and inputting data into a learning management system and setting up audio visual equipment.

Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hours equal to one (1) year of work experience.


  • Strong and effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to anticipate and identify issues and problem solve.
  • Ability to responsibly handle personal information.
  • Ability to work extended hours or non-traditional hours such as evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, etc., as needed. May be required to work twelve (12)-hour shifts during SOC activities, sometimes with limited notice and relief, for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must have the ability to travel in or out of state by vehicle or other modes of transportation, overnight or for extended periods.


Requisite within twelve (12) months of hire successful completion of and certification in IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 and the FEMA Professional Development Series.
