Job Description

Job Summary

The TexPREP Mentor will provide TexPREP participants with activities related to classroom support for the TexPREP Summer Program. This includes providing in-class tutoring and assisting with maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment for participants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform activities related to tutoring and mentoring for the TexPREP summer program. Use sound, independent judgement when performing duties. Tutor students individually and in groups. Facilitate learning of course material. Model effective learning and study strategies for content mastery. Assist the TexPREP instructor with supervision of program participants.

  • Attend assigned classes and lead study sessions.

  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with TexPREP course instructors and program staff.

  • Maintain and prepare confidential records.

  • Participate in cultural/educational field trips.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - High school diploma or post secondary education.

  • Experience - A year of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Tutoring and learning techniques experience.

  • Knowledge of the TexPREP program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  •  Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.

  •  Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with students, faculty, and other University personnel.

  •  Ability to motivate students.

  •  Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Other Information

  • Position is temporary, start date of June 3rd to July 3rd.

  • Position requires working up to 19 hours per week for the duration of the summer program. 

  • Individuals will be working with minors and proper background checks will be run by HR prior to employment.

  • Complete employment application must include a resume and unofficial transcript.

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary: $9.50/hourly for up to 19 hours
