PURPOSE

The Graphic Designer II, under the supervision of the Executive Director of Marketing, supports various graphic design projects for the marketing and communications needs of the university, including designing and editing graphics/photos for use in print publications, multimedia, web sites, and other purposes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Graphic Design – 60%

  • Produces—through design, drawing, and/or editing—complex graphics and motion graphics for various print projects, publications, digital media, multimedia, marketing, and research deliverables, including custom designs for logos, invitations, signs, newsletters, brochures, and magazines.

  • Develops templates for the university’s communications toolbox so that staff can easily create appropriate branded print and electronic flyers, event programs, one pagers, etc.

Client Management – 20%

  • Collaborates with customers, as needed, from concept to creation to provide a high level of customer support.

  • Present branding and design concepts to clients and partners and provide guidance to ensure product and goals of the project are appropriate.

  • Create timelines and write scopes for project proposal and agreements.

  • Collaborate with photographer on photoshoots to help guide imagery for print materials.

Production – 15%

  • Works closely with various printers to ensure timeliness, quality, and customer satisfaction with final product, including art proof checks, go to press checks, and any other function necessary, to ensure all project criteria are met in a superior manner.

  • Write print specifications to obtain print bids. Work closely with vendors to keep projects on deadline and budget.

  • Maintains list of current vendors and potential new vendors.

  • Maintains reports on amounts spent with each vendor and coordinates the necessary paperwork accompanying projects with outside vendors.

  • Coordinate with technical staff to accurately code and/or prepare artwork for websites and other online material.

Administrative – 5%

  • Review materials to ensure compliance with university guidelines, deadlines, and design standards.

  • Maintains documentation for each project including approvals, comments, drafts, and artwork.

  • Properly archive files-both hard and electronic copies-for future reference/retrieval.

  • Act as a technical resource in the area of graphics and publication design software, hardware, and techniques.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, or closely related field.

  • Two (2) years of related experience in graphic design, print and electronic media, marketing, or related design field.

  • Additional education/experience may be considered as a substitution for minimum requirements: Associate's degree in a related field with four (4) years of related experience or Master's degree in a related field.

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).

  • Expertise in creating marketing print-based material, including brochures, fliers, and magazines.

  • Ability to create original concepts and images through drawing or sketches.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with an ability to handle multiple assignments in a high-volume, demanding environment.

  • Creative, detail oriented, and be able to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to translate client needs into executable designs.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE

  • Four (4)years of experience in working within a marketing or advertising team.

  • Experience working within brand guides or standards.

  • Experience working with clients or in the customer service field.  

  • Prior management of employees or interns.

  • Copywriting experience.

SALARY: $45,000 - $49,000/annually, approximately.

  • $3,750 - $4,083.34/monthly

  • Salary is dependent upon education/experience.
